Gamelan is powerful ensemble music from Indonesia consisting chiefly of gongs, metallophones and drums which is its native context is played by members of the community, as well as by professionals in elaborate royal palace settings.
The music we have created has been greatly influenced by traditional Javanese music. This is an attempt at fusing Gamelan instruments, tonality and harmony with our own western groove, song structuring ideas and most notably, electronic elements and technology.
All Gamelan samples were recorded on the Soundscape Gamelan.
Many thanks to Pete Smith (who is sampled on track 1 & 3), Adry Ann (sampled on track 2), Jonathan Reynolds, Claude Madec, Niamh Tiernan, David O'Brian, Saibh Egan and everyone at Gamelan na Gallimhe. Without them this project would not have been possible.
